December 07, 2010: Chapter 313 "Minutes"
A light luncheon was available prior to the December 7 meeting. President Stegeman called the meeting to order at noon. Bob Anderson gave the invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
Stegeman introduced Senator-elect Mike Kehoe as guest speaker. Senator-elect Kehoe gave an account of his family life growing up in St Louis. He told of his road to Jefferson City through the auto industry. He said community involvement provides help to the citizens and promotes good public relationships among businesses. Kehoe believes education, defense, infrastructure and economic development play an important role in good government. He answered specific questions on the care of senior citizens, fair tax, repeal of the Motor Fuel Ethanol Mandate and utilities.
In the absence of District Officer Margaret Hudgens, President Stegeman installed the following officers for 2011: Laurice Stevens, Vice-President; Bob Anderson, Treasurer and Marcia Schweiss, Secretary. Derrill Harms, President-elect was absent and will be installed in January.
Stegeman asked for a vote on the approval of the previous meeting minutes. Bob Anderson made the motion to approve, seconded by Bonnie Forck. Motion passed.
Bob Anderson gave the treasurer's report stating there was $74.82 in the local Hawthorn Bank and $8900.29 in the National NARFE Credit Union. The only expense was $183.00 for a new chapter's banner.
Stegeman stated the Salvation Army is looking for Bell Ringers.
A public relations project was presented by Stegeman to purchase buttons with appropriate sayings to distribute at health fairs, etc. After some discussion Margaret Sachse made a motion to table the discussion for a later meeting, seconded by Bob Anderson and passed.
A drawing for a free one-year membership in NARFE was won by Josh Podorski of the National Guard.
Gene Sandbothe, Recruiter, has talked to members asking for help in recruiting new members.
President Stegeman said we need more support on NARFE issues by replying to GEMS information provided to each member by e-mail.
Stegeman proposed preparing a poster for federal agencies advising them of NARFE and how to join. The cost would be about $20/poster. Bob Anderson moved to go ahead with the project, seconded by Sandbothe. Motion passed.
President Stegeman discussed obtaining a bulk mailing service (AAA) to save postage. After several questions and discussion, Margaret Sachse made a motion to obtain a written proposal, seconded by Gene Sandbothe and passed.
The next meeting will be noon January 4th at the American Legion building.
