National Active & Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Association
September 20, 2010
On September 20th Narfe Chapter 313 held their annual picnic followed by a short business meeting, this year at Jeff City's Riverside Park. A. C. Pearre gave the invocation prior to the meal, followed by our Pledge of Allegiance to our nation's flag.
Twenty members and eleven guests attended. Special guests included Ron Peters, Missouri Federation President; Richard "Dick" Thissen, seven-state Region V vice-president; and Margaret Huebner, Missouri's District four Officer. Margaret was accompanied by her husband Dave. Many of the other guests also were spouses of chapter members.
Region V's VP Thissen spoke on upcoming dues increases and legislative issues that could affect all NARFE members. He encouraged the chapter to keep on keeping in touch with candidates. MO Federation president Peters discussed several items from April's MO Federation convention. He said four chapters had co-hosted the convention, and he thinks this concept might be useful in future conventions. Peters also named the changes to MO Federation's officers. Huebner then spoke on the importance of a chapter having a timely audit.
Chapter 313 President Stegeman thanked Norm Hicks for procuring the meat for our picnic and Laurice Stevens, Bonnie Forck, and Sylvia Roling for their assistance. She also thanked members who added non-meat food dishes to our picnic table's offerings.
Stegeman presided over a drawing for attendance prizes from the NARFE store. Recipients: Bob Anderson, Margaret Sachse, Virginia Higgins, Wilburn Rowden, A.C. Pearre, Gene Sandbothe, Bob Schellman, Greg Eskijian.
Cathy Stone, one of the guests, won the drawing for a free one-year membership in NARFE.
President Stegeman announced a change in chapter's meeting dates, back to our previous first Tuesday each month. So our next meeting will be October 5th at American Legion building. Specifically for our upcoming October meeting, president Stegeman has sent invitations to federal agencies inviting their employees to a free 11:30 luncheon prior to our noon meeting. October's speaker will be Erica Quade, consultant for Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
Respectfully submitted,
Margaret Sachse, Chapter 313 secretary
