The July 19 meeting was opened with a prayer by A.C. Pearre followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.
Ned Diekroeger introduced Marvin Register, Clerk of Cole County, who spoke on voting procedures and issues. He explained the use of the absentee ballot for the disabled, nursing home residents and overseas military personnel. Register gave an overview of the number of poll workers needed, the counting of ballots and the cost involved.
The minutes of the June meeting were approved as written. No treasurer report available for this meeting.
President Stegeman discussed the need to forward proxies for the National Convention, as no Chapter 313 member will be attending.
Ned Diekroeger reported that a meeting between District 4 NARFE members and Congressman Ike Skelton will be held in Sedalia, MO on August 2nd. Three to four members from our Jefferson City chapter plan to attend. On Thursday, July 22nd he will attend the NARFE State Federation meeting in Columbia and give a report on "Meet Your Candidates Month" activities throughout the state.
The September 20 NARFE picnic site will be at the covered pavilion at EllisPorter/Riverside Park. Members agree there would be no charge for potential members. Norm Hicks volunteered to prepare the entrees'. Stegeman advised more details will be in the Newsletter and at the next meeting.
Jim Fleming won the 50/50 drawing. The next meeting will be August 16 at noon at the American Legion building.
